Professional networking site LinkedIn’s UAE members are the ‘most connected’ in the world among users of the platform.

The firm said that UAE users of LinkedIn have a reported average of 211 connections per individual.The UAE is followed by the Netherlands with 188 average connections per person, Singapore with 152 connections, the UK with 144 and Denmark with 143.

LinkedIn said its user-base reached 22 million members in the MENA region, compared with over 500 million members across 200 countries.

The firm also said that the top five most connected places on its network are London (307 average connections), Amsterdam area (288 connections), San Francisco Bay area (241 connections), Greater Jakarta area (225 connections), Milan area (221 connections).

The top five most connected industries are staffing and recruitment, venture capital and private equity, human resources, management consulting, and online media.

In terms of job functions, the human resources sector was found to be most connected followed by product management, business development, marketing, and consulting.

LinkedIn, which has three million members in the UAE, opened its first MENA office in Dubai in 2012.

The LinkedIn report runs contrary to a recent study by Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority found LinkedIn and Snapchat to be among the least popular social media platforms among users among users in the UAE.

WhatsApp and Facebook are the most popular social media platforms among users in the country, according to the study.

As per the survey, 97% of respondents use WhatsApp while 89% use Facebook. Video sharing site YouTube finished third behind WhatsApp and Facebook with 73%. Overall, those between 18 and 21 years of age log on to social media most, the report said.
